DIY Scripture Advent Calendar
11:37 PM
Every year I like to have some kind of fun way to count down the days until Christmas. This year, with the help of Target, I was able to put together this little Scripture Advent calendar.
I really want to bring the true meaning of Christmas into my home this year, and I believe that by diving into the Good Book we will perhaps gain a greater appreciation for the babe in swaddling clothes, our Savior Jesus Christ.
Oh how I love this wonderful magical season.
Within each little drawer is a scripture verse about the Savior's life. There are scriptures about Him as a boy teaching in the temple, and as a man blessing and healing the sick, and as a babe lying in a manger.
I loved the list of scriptures found HERE. Thanks to this little link, I found both Bible and Book of Mormon scripture verses that outline the Savior's life beautifully. (Steph and I are members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. We are Mormons. We believe the Bible to be the word of God, we also believe the Book of Mormon to be the word of God. Wondering what we else we believe? Look no further... Mormon.org
Along with a scripture verse, I added a simple treat and some kind of object that represents what the scripture verse teaches.
So far, this has been a huge hit. Each night after dinner, my two older children take turns opening the little drawers and discovering what is hidden within. My first grader is even helping read the scriptures, which has been wonderful.
I hope that as my little family learn a little more about our Savior's life, we will have hearts full of love and gratitude this holiday season.
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all of you, our wonderful friends!
Love,
